Backcountry Containers is a builder of shipping container homes and ADUs. While they have offered pre-designed container homes in the past, they currently focus on custom designed container homes. This includes single 20’ & 40’ container homes as well as multiple container homes. The company is based in Needville, Texas and delivers to the US Southwest.

Although all Backcountry Containers' homes are built from recycled shipping containers, their builds often incorporate wood stairs, balconies, and even a full exterior wood wall for a hybrid look. Their homes take on a modern style, with sliding glass doors, large windows, and LED lighting. When joining multiple shipping containers together for larger models, Backcountry Containers may opt to stack the containers vertically at an unusual angle with lots of overhang, or they may connect them horizontally with an overhanging metal awning.

Interiors come complete with full kitchens, bathrooms, appliances, and insulation. Homes may feature vaulted ceilings with exposed beams for a modern farmhouse feel. Other designs utilize exposed wood finishes and horizontal interior siding for a cozy atmosphere.

The 20 foot shipping container homes can be completed in 6-8 weeks while the 40 foot models take 8-10 weeks. Once the build is complete, Backcountry Containers’ team drives the completed container homes on either a flatbed or chassis. It is worth mentioning however, that buyers or a local contractor must prepare the site for the containers’ arrival. While Backcountry Containers’ can hook up utilities onsite, their homes can also function off the grid with a generator.
