Their prefab ADUs are built from steel shipping containers, giving them a unique modern style. In terms of design, their ADUs feature a practical cargo look, with flat metal roofs, large glass doors, waffled steel siding, and bamboo finish or Swedish finish mahogany floors. While floor plans are pre-designed, upgrades and minor interior and exterior customization is available. Homes are usually built on diamond-shaped, pre-cast foundational piers to help weather seismic, frost, flood, and high wind zones. Cargotecture’s ADUs are environmentally friendly, made with recycled shipping container walls, soy based insulation, and optional solar paneling. 

It is worth noting that Cargotecture handles all design, manufacturing, permitting, setting, and installation of their homes, including on-site work. Shipping is free for most US locations. However, buyers outside of their Washington State installation area must work with a third-party installer or handle the installation themselves. Homes are delivered complete, with appliances, heating, lighting, and IKEA furniture. Cargotecture ADUs can be installed in as quick as 1 day. The ADUs only require a brief plumbing and electrical hookup before being turn-key ready.
