Cavco Homes Review

Cavco Homes is a manufactured home builder that is publicly traded under the symbol CVCO. They have multiple manufacturing locations with centers based in Phoenix, Arizona; Hamlet, North Carolina; Seguin, Texas; and Goodyear, Arizona. They focus on manufactured homes though they can also build modular and park model houses. Their houses are sold by a network of over 170 distribution partners. These sales centers are located throughout the Southwestern United States, though they do have locations in other U.S. States. Cavco Homes also operates the brand, Durango Homes.

Architecturally speaking, homes from Cavco Homes largely focus on traditional architecture with many homes featuring ranch, cottage, or craftsman designs. Though, with 220+ manufactured homes currently for sale, buyers have a range of options to choose from. These range from 1 bed, 533 square foot homes up to 5 bed, 3,040 square foot homes. It is worth mentioning though, that because Cavco Homes primarily sell their homes via a network of sales centers, not all floor plans may be available in your area. While Cavco Homes are able to build fully-custom homes, complete customization is often geared toward land/lease communities, subdivision developers, and large multi-location distributors.

When buying a home from Cavco Homes, there are a few things individuals should know. First, from a design standpoint their homes come standard with appliances and interior finishes like fixtures, mirrors, and cabinetry that is built specifically for their homes. And logistically, their houses can easily be delivered and set on the final site.

And once individuals purchase their home from a Cavco Homes sales center, the local retailer is responsible for shipping, setting, and finishing the home. Though it is worth mentioning, the exact scope of work may vary depending on your selected home and the retail center. Often, the timing for receiving your home depends on Cavco Homes’ manufacturing schedule at the moment and the availability of local contractors in your area to prepare the building site and install the home.

Strengths:

  • Have a long operating history and is one of the largest manufactured home builders in the U.S.

  • Have several manufacturing facilities which can help reduce shipping costs for buyers located in various parts of the country

Reasons they might not be for you:

  • You are located far away from one of their manufacturing centers and shipping costs become prohibitive

  • Many reviews take issue with how their warranty claims and requests for repairs were handled (either slow to reply or refused to cover certain claims). In many cases, however, post-purchase repairs are handled by the local retailers and their service team rather than Cavco Homes themselves (1)(2)
