Ecocor Review

Ecocor designs and produces prefab homes that are Passive House certifiable. As such, their homes consume 80-90% less energy than a site-built home. Buyers can either choose a custom design or select one of the 11 standard floor plans from their Solsken Collection. In a further effort to boost their sustainability, Ecocor uses local building materials when possible. It is worth noting that Ecocor only manufactures the shell of the home though, in some cases, they can provide turn-key homes for customers local to their Searsmont, Maine production facility.

Like most passive homes, Ecocor’s designs are heavily reliant on a home exterior with superior insulation  and that can also control water and air filtration from the exterior. Using their trademark PassivWall, Ecocor is able to manufacture prefab homes that are energy efficient and environmentally friendly. Interestingly, Ecocor can also retrofit select older homes and help them meet Passive House standards.

Strengths:

  • Passive House certified

  • Well insulated with the ability to handle cold temperatures well, even in power outage situations

Reasons they might not be for you:

  • You are looking for a larger home as their biggest standard floor plan only has 3 bedrooms

  • You want a company that will provide a turn-key home
