Summary of Operations & Modular Sauna and Cold Plunge Offerings

New Primitive designs and builds modular wellness suites for customers across the United States. They specialize in saunas and have 3 sizes of sauna suites ranging from a standalone 2-4 person sauna to a complete wellness suite with a 6-8 person sauna & cold plunge pool.

Design Overview

New Primitive’s product line includes 3 different sizes of sauna units plus a standalone cold plunge pool. Their smallest and most simple sauna, the Nook, is large enough for 2-4 people and includes one bench. Their mid-sized sauna, the 212°, is designed for 6-8 people, has two levels of benches, and includes a panoramic window. Their largest model, the NP 1° Combo includes all of the features of the 212° and also has an attached changing room that also includes their 32° Plunge pool.

Their standard models combine traditional, Scandinavian-style saunas with modern designs. Their larger units also include panoramic windows which is an added design touch when compared to many other saunas. The models can be personalized including exterior color, window placement, bench layout, and heater specifications. For additional personalization, they also offer a builder’s package where they finish the interior of the unit and leave the exterior unfinished, so that it can be built to match the home’s exact style. Alternatively, they consider fully-custom designs on a one-off basis given that the scope of the project is a fit.

Build Process & Timeline

Unlike most other modular structures covered on our site, New Primitive’s sauna and cold plunge pool modules require very little site work for them to be installed and finished. While it is location dependent, in most cases their studios do not require permitting. Additionally, their units do not require an extensive foundation. Often, a flat, compact pad is all that is required - like a gravel or cement pad. Additionally, their units have straightforward utility hook-ups requiring just a hose connection for their cold plunge pool and a 220 volt connection for their sauna and plunge pool.

Once buyers place a deposit for a New Primitive unit, construction can begin. Assuming New Primitive has production availability (they build around 30 units a year), the typical turnaround time is about 8 weeks. Once the model is complete it is shipped and installed at the final build site. For projects in the Western U.S. New Primitive can assist with the installation and site prep. For other projects, buyers must organize prep and installation with a local contractor, though New Primitive provides construction documents to help with the process.

Factors to Consider

Strengths

  • Fully modular sauna + cold plunge suites that can be installed with little site preparation & requirements

  • Offer the ability to assist with site work & installation for projects in the Western U.S.

  • Modules can be personalized & customized

Reasons they may not be for you

  • They are outside of your price range

  • Your site has limited site access that would make it difficult for a crane or telescoping forklift to deliver & install the sauna module
