What Do You Think About Home Depot Prefab Homes?

The key thing to understand about Home Depot prefab homes is that they all are pretty much a kit of parts for the frame or the shell of the house.  That means you’re paying for the home’s frame, but the work of assembly and finishing the house is typically not included.

Here’s an Example: Home Depot Kit Home

On the house above, you’re just getting the steel frame (un-assembled) as well as plans that include engineering for $47,000.

What it costs to finish the home will vary greatly from home to home and based on location and site but consider that this doesn’t include foundation, siding, flooring, installation, MEP,  appliances, finishes, insulation, a roof etc. So broadly speaking, if you’re paying professionals to do the rest of the home and DIY-ing it, the frame might represent 25% of the total cost of the home.
