Honomobo Review

Honomobo is a modular home builder out of Alberta who repurposes shipping containers into beautiful-looking, modern homes and delivers them across Western Canada, as well as California and Washington in the US. Honomobo does not build custom designs, but offers a selection of models that can be upgraded with options including home automation, a high-efficiency AC system, or a full-size patio door. The company assists buyers through the planning, permits, construction, delivery, and installation part of the process, though final site-work will need to be outsourced to a general contractor.

The modular structure of the shipping containers provides a variety of options for home layouts, as can be seen in their selection of 9 different styles. Featuring a minimalistic modern exterior, the rectangular homes range in size from a 273 sq ft bar to a 1530 sq ft 3-bedroom home. Some designs include garages and/or patio space as well.

Strengths:

  • Good for areas with impressive surrounding - Most designs feature a living room with  floor-to-ceiling windows adorning the entire wall, making these great for taking in the landscape.

  • Garage space easily addable -Many prefab plan designers make it more complicated to add an attached garage

  • Ultra-modern design - Homes use minimal accents or exterior fixtures, creating a very sleek look.

Reasons they may not be for you:

  • No Layout Customization

  • You live outside the Northwest of the United States
